Paspatur bazaar and Fethiye Marina
The old bazaar, Paspatur, is Fethiye's heart, with narrow stone lanes, craft shops and fish restaurants. Walking down towards the harbour in the late afternoon brings you to the yacht-filled Fethiye Marina and, on Tuesdays, a lively local market.
Sitting at a marina café to watch the sunset is the easiest way to unwind after a long transfer or day of sightseeing.
The Lycian rock tombs
Carved into the cliffs above the town centre, the Lycian rock tombs are the most striking remnant of Fethiye's ancient name, Telmessos. The largest and most visited, the Tomb of Amyntas, is cut in the form of a temple façade; a short, steep climb leads up to it and rewards you with views over the town and bay.
Visiting close to sunset is cooler and gives more dramatic light; after dark, the tombs are lit up and visible from the centre below.
Boat trips and the Gocek direction
Daily '12 Islands' boat tours weave through the bays of the Gulf of Fethiye, the easiest way to reach clear swimming coves without travelling far. For a quieter, marina-focused day, Gocek — known for yacht tourism — is about 22 km west, a short drive away.
Half-day trips beyond the centre
Eight kilometres from Fethiye, Kayakoy is a striking open-air museum of abandoned stone houses. A little further inland, Saklikent Gorge and the ancient city of Tlos offer a cooler alternative on hot summer days. Both make sense as a separate half-day out by car.
